Calm returns to Aylesbury after protest

Calm returned to Aylesbury on Saturday night, after protesters from the English Defence League (EDL) had finished their demonstration and left the town.
Supt Richard List, Aylesbury’s police commander, said: “The protest was largely uneventful, apart from some disorder towards the end. Fortunately we had enough officers in Market Square to prevent the situation from escalating, and the protesters left the town as planned, allowing normality to return. Saturday evening was very quiet for our officers.”
Of the 12 men Thames Valley Police arrested yesterday:
Seven men arrested on suspcion of possessing an offensive weapon and one arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly were released without charge.
A 40-year-old and a 23-year-old man from Birmingham, who were arrested on suspicion of inciting violent disorder, and a 41-year-old man from Worthing in West Sussex, who was arrested on suspicion of committing a public order offence, have been released on police bail until June.
A 27-year-old man from Houghton Conquest in Bedfordshire has been cautioned for possessing an offensive weapon
A 22-year-old man from Aylesbury was fined for committing a public order offence at Aylesbury Railway Station.
