Thames Valley Police says that there were no reports of serious incidents in Aylesbury overnight ahead of today’s (1 May) planned protest by the English Defence League (EDL) in the town.

Supt Richard List, commander of the Aylesbury Vale Local Policing Area said: “Rumours have been circulating in the town regarding assaults and other incidents. We would like to reassure people in the town that no such incidents occurred and things were relatively calm overnight.

“Our officers are liaising with the local community to reassure them and ensure that the situation remains under control.”

“However, there were some early problems with road closures and I would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Statement issued by Thames Valley Police, Aylesbury Vale District Council, Buckinghamshire County Council and Aylesbury Town Council.
