Children and adults across Aylesbury are being invited to take a look at the range of exciting activities on offer at the newly refurbished Southcourt Community Centre.
The centre is holding an open day on Saturday 11 September to encourage the community to use its facilities.
Groups that regularly hire the facility will be showcasing their activities. The free open day will run from 2pm to 4pm
Children can take part in sports and giant games, play on a bouncy castle and try their hand at face painting. There’ll also be line dancing and salsacize demonstrations to give local residents the chance to see what the centre can offer them.
Aylesbury Vale District Council has given the building a facelift so that it can be used more effectively to deliver activities and events for all members of the local community.
The building now has an improved kitchen area, better toilets, a projector, screen and hearing loop in the main hall, and the whole centre has been redecorated. Two meeting areas in the main hall will shortly be created.
The refurbishment has been funded by Section 106 money (property developers’ contributions to community projects).
Councillor David Thompson, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: “The refurbishment of Southcourt Community Centre demonstrates our commitment to providing the very best facilities for residents of Aylesbury Vale. We want as many people as possible to come down to the open day to find out about the fantastic opportunities they can participate in. It’s a well-used centre by a range of different people and we are always encouraging new users, young and old, to take part in new activities.”
The Southcourt Community Centre is open seven days a week if you are looking for somewhere to hold meetings or even children’s parties. Anyone interested in booking the centre should go to www.aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk/communitycentres or call 01296 338317.
