Full details of how you can help Aylesbury Vale lead the way in a national celebration of the Queen’s diamond jubilee can now be downloaded here on the AVDC website.

Organisers aim to light 2,012 beacons across the UK and Commonwealth countries on 4 June next year. Special portable beacons, designed for church towers or other highpoints, are available for the event.

The chain of beacons will begin life in the islands of Tonga before spreading across the world and to the UK. The Queen will light a beacon for the nation at Buckingham Palace, which will be the setting for a concert in her honour on Monday 4 June.

The registration document (see link below) also outlines the best way of constructing a bonfire-style beacon, along with details of how to buy the portable version which is run by bottled gas. They cost £299 each, plus VAT, with £30 going to charity.
