A new £65,000 children’s play area at Stratford Fields in Buckingham is set to be officially opened this month.
Councillor Michael Rand, Vice Chairman of Aylesbury Vale District Council, and pupils from Bourton Meadow School will attend the opening ceremony at 2pm on Thursday 7 July. The children will then have the chance to try it out and put the play area through its paces.
AVDC consulted with youngsters from Bourton Meadow School to inform the design brief and local residents to provide feedback on the new design.
The play area includes traditional and imaginative play equipment that can be used by children of all abilities, from toddlers through to young teenagers. A nest swing, climbing net, spinning dish, rope bridge and playhouse are among the fun features that youngsters can enjoy.
AVDC committed £40,000 to the play area, with further funding secured through section 106 planning development funds.
The council is also planning to totally refurbish play areas at Overn Avenue and Otters Brook open spaces in Buckingham. It’s hoped that work will commence this autumn with the play areas completed and open for use before the end of the year.
Councillor David Thompson, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: “This is a fantastic facility and I hope the children will enjoy playing on such an imaginative and well designed play area. I would like to thank all the local children and members of the community who helped us with the design. It’s so important to give children and young people of a wide range of ages and abilities somewhere they can have fun and get active and equally important for parents to know they are in a safe environment, always a high priority for us in the design of new play areas.”
