Due to the national industrial dispute yesterday (30 November), AVDC was only able to collect recycling and residual waste in areas where a brown bin is being trialled.

Why aren’t we doing a catch-up?

We are sorry that a catch-up of refuse collection this week is not possible. The decision to concentrate on collecting recycling was made for the following reasons:

• If we missed recycling, glass would not be collected for two months and paper, cans and plastics, a month. With green bins, there’s only a week’s delay.
• It’s not possible on safety grounds to work late enough into Thursday and Friday evening to catch up the number of properties. (Drivers are only permitted to drive for 9.15 hrs maximum).
• To have added a collection on Saturday would have been expensive. When other circumstances have resulted in missed collections, our staff have been paid overtime to work Saturdays to catch up. To do this, on this occasion, would mean paying overtime to staff who have taken part in the industrial action. The council, feels that this approach is not appropriate.
• The waste landfill sites (operated by private contractors) where the refuse is taken close at 4.15pm.

Please see the link below for the household waste site opening times.

We apologise for the inconvenience caused.
