Let’s play! That’s the rally cry to youngsters in Gawcott to encourage them to have a go on exciting new play facilities in their area.

Aylesbury Vale District Council has rebuilt the children’s play area at The Rise thanks to grants from WREN, Vale of Aylesbury Housing Trust and the Buckingham and Gawcott Charitable Trust. The old play site had been installed in 1992 and needed complete refurbishment.

On Tuesday 27 September, Councillor Derrick Isham, Chairman of AVDC, was joined by children and local residents to officially open the new play area. The youngsters then had the chance to try it out and put the new equipment through its paces.

The £75,000 play area is predominantly aimed at two to 14 year-olds with challenging and exciting equipment including a high slide, nest swing, roundabout and football goal. AVDC consulted local children and residents living near the site on the type of equipment they wanted to see included in the new play space.

Councillor David Thompson, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: “This is a fantastic facility and I hope the children will enjoy playing on such an imaginative and well-designed play area. I would like to thank everyone for their hard work in making this happen and the various organisations for the funding they provided. I can see lots of children spending many hours of fun and enjoyment at this magnificent new play area.”

The new Gawcott play area is the latest in a large number of continuing improvements to children and teenage play facilities across the district.
