Paralympic torch
Are you feeling inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games?
If so, then this is your opportunity to be part of the action. Buckinghamshire County Council and Aylesbury Vale District Council are looking for volunteers to help with the Paralympic Torch Relay in Aylesbury, Weston Turville and Aston Clinton on the evening of 28 August.
As the birthplace of the Paralympic movement, Aylesbury, and more specifically Stoke Mandeville Stadium, will be celebrating with a spectacular event to mark the start of the London 2012 Paralympic Torch Relay ahead of the Paralympic Games opening ceremony on 29 August. The coming together of the Paralympic flames at Stoke Mandeville Stadium marks the beginning of the 24 hour Paralympic Torch Relay as it winds its way to the Olympic Stadium at Stratford, London.
The event will be taking place on Tuesday 28 August and will see the four Paralympic flames arriving from London, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast where they will be combined at the Stoke Mandeville Stadium to create the London 2012 Paralympic Torch. The Torch will then start a 24 hour relay to the Olympic Stadium to start the official opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games.
Volunteers are needed throughout the evening to help with the smooth running of the event, with roles including stewarding, providing information to visitors and helping direct visitors. Volunteers will need to be available for training at either 2pm on Wednesday 22 August or 5pm on Thursday 23 August. The training will include an element of disability awareness due to the nature of the event.
