Olympic Torch
The countdown is over. Today the Olympic torch relay will visit Buckingham, Winslow, Whitchurch, Aylesbury, Stoke Mandeville and Waddesdon as part of of its 70 day journey around the UK for the London 2012 Games.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of history and celebrate the Olympic Flame coming to the Vale.
Newsletters with maps and information for each area where the Olympic Torch is being carried through the streets including approxmiate times of arrival are available. Please click on the link to our Olympic Torch Relay page below.
Several local people will be among the Torchbearers carrying the precious Torch and we want the whole community to share in the excitement, welcome the flame and celebrate the achievement of the Torchbearers as they pass through the Vale.
The Torch is not likely to arrive exactly on schedule - and with a weather forcecast set for showers today, please come prepared.
•A convoy of vehicles will drive past first - the runners carrying the Torch will follow behind. Don’t leave too early or you’ll miss the Torch
•The roads where the Torch is being carried (please see route maps) will be closed to traffic shortly before the convoy arrives and will remain closed until the Torchbearers have passed
•It’s likely to remain busy in the area for a while after the Torch has passed
To help local residents and businesses plan for the occasion, we have also put together some FAQs with information on timings, travel, parking, celebrating and business continuity.
