Budding young wildlife enthusiasts are invited to take part in some BBC Springwatch themed activities in Aylesbury this month.

Junior Springwatch will take place on Saturday 24 March at the Quarrendon and Meadowcroft Community Centre, Jonathan Page Play Centre and Bowler’s Field to give children and young people the chance to find out more about local wildlife.

Visitors to the free event will be able to see birds of prey and other wildlife including chicks, ducks, bugs and reptiles. A variety of craft activities will be offered including planting, willow weaving and modelling, as well as wildlife themed games.

A range of wildlife organisations including the Bucks Badger Group, the North Bucks Ferret Association, RSPB Aylesbury Wildlife Explorers, The Berks Bucks Oxon Wildlife Trust, Mid Bucks Bee’s and the Upper Thames Branch Butterfly Conservation will be at the event to answer any queries about wildlife conservation.

The event has been organised by Aylesbury Vale District Council’s leisure services and the Aylesbury Vale Out of School Network to encourage children and young people to take an interest in nature close to where they live. It is also being supported by Buckinghamshire County Council and Aylesbury Vale Community Chest.

The free drop-in day runs from 11am to 3pm and all children must be accompanied by an adult. Anyone needing more information should visit www.aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk/play or telephone 01296 585188.
