Aylesbury residents and visitors are invited to take part in a family fun day of activities at the new Riverside Walk play area on 7 June.

The free event, organised by the Jonathan Page Play Centre, will run from 10am to 3pm and promises to be a great day of entertainment for people of all ages.

There’ll be a wide variety of activities including crafts, sports, face painting, umbanda drumming and a bouncy castle.

The event has been made possible thanks to Big Lottery funding secured by the Quarrendon and Meadowcroft Community Action Partnership (QMCAP) with support from Aylesbury Vale District Council.

The recently opened play area, located on the open space between the Meadowcroft and Savernake developments, is a great addition to the popular Riverside Walk which is rich in wildlife and ideal for walking, picnicking and bird watching.

The £66,000 facility was made possible thanks to a successful funding bid from QMCAP, supported by AVDC’s green spaces team. A £50,000 grant from the Big Lottery Fund’s Community Spaces initiative was secured along with funding from the Vale of Aylesbury Housing Trust and the district council.

The play area has been specially designed to appeal to children aged between two and 14 and features hand carved wooden play sculptures alongside traditional play equipment.

QMCAP and AVDC secured a sustainability grant of £3,160 from The Big Lottery Fund to hold three family fun days to raise awareness of the play area. The events are scheduled to take place on 7 June, 17 August and 3 September.
