Street names and numbering

Building Control deals with the allocation of official postal addresses within the Aylesbury Vale district.  This is for all new commercial and domestic developments and house name changes.

We liaise with the Royal Mail and will notify all emergency services and utility providers.

New developments

We make sure the streets are properly named and numbered as part of the Building Regulations.  We consult with the developer, the District Council Member(s) and the Parish/Town Council to ask for their street name suggestions.   We ensure that any suggested street name does not conflict with something else in the area.  The public are allowed to comment on proposed names.  The final decision on a street name is taken by us.

One method we use for street naming is to take names from war memorials. This tribute to local servicemen adds to the history of Aylesbury and helps to keep the spirit of the community alive. Other naming methods used in the past have included themes of flowers, trees and wildlife.

If you would like to comment on a proposed street name, please call us on 01296 585460 or email at bcontrol@aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk

If you spot a damaged street sign please call us on 01296 585382 or email at streets@aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk.
