Development Control Committees

The Development Control Committee and Strategic Development Control Committee decide approximately 10% of planning applications. Follow the link below for more information about which applications they decide and why.

Development Control Committee meets every 3 weeks on Thursdays. It is made up of 17 elected councillors.  At least 5 must be present  to determine an application.

Strategic Development Control Committee has 9 elected Councillors. Meetings are scheduled for several months ahead, but may be cancelled if there is no business to conduct.

Planning officers and other Council staff also attend committee meetings to present applications, answer councillors' queries and take minutes. A steward is present in the public area to help members of the public.

Copies of committee agendas and reports can be seen online or at our Customer Services Centre 5 working days prior to the meeting. At each meeting committee members approve the minutes of the previous meeting. The minutes are then published online within one week.
