Aylesbury Vale Environmental Character Assessment
The Aylesbury Vale environmental character assessment (ECA) is a study which aims to identify areas of environmental sensitivity around Aylesbury, Buckingham, Haddenham, Wendover and Winslow, and has been undertaken by Jacobs Babtie on behalf of Aylesbury Vale District Council and Buckinghamshire County Council.
The study contains information to assist in identifying land where development could occur and have the minimum impact upon biodiversity, landscape character and the historic landscape. The study also identifies opportunities for the provision of new green infrastructure, the improvement of existing green infrastructure and will eventually result in the production of a district wide landscape character assessment.
The ECA is made up of four separate reports
Environmental character assessment
Ecological studies
Landscape character assessment
Historical environment assessment
The ECA report identifies areas of sensitivity based upon the assessments contained within the ecological landscape and historic environment reports. The ECA report should be read in conjunction with the three constituent reports as these contain the detail upon which the ECA assessments have been made.
The results of the ECA work will be used along with the results of other evidence gathering work such as the transport assessment, employment study, retail study, water cycle study, housing potential study and public consultation. Taken together, this will assist in identifying potential areas of development around Aylesbury for inclusion in the core strategy and the Aylesbury allocated sites development plan documents (DPD's). The assessments for Buckingham, Haddenham, Wendover and Winslow will be used to inform the rural areas allocated sites DPD.
The background paper summarises the results of the environmental character assessment for Aylesbury. Reference should be made to the full study when quoting or referencing the findings of this assessment.
