AVLDF preferred options

On the 8th September 2010 the Council will be considering a recommendation to withdraw the Core Strategy from the examination process (subject to Secretary of State Direction); this report will be available from 26th August 2010. Please see the Core Strategy – Current Position webpage for the latest information.

The core strategy (a development plan document), is the central document within the local development framework, and all other development plan documents must agree with it.

It will set out the overall strategy for development in the district, including the broad location for accommodation of the proposed growth. It also sets out the key elements of the planning framework for the district, including a spatial vision and strategic objectives.

Since the publication of the preferred options, the scope of the core strategy has changed as a result of changed government guidance. It will now also include strategic allocations in the district, including the major growth at Aylesbury and large employment areas. It will also set out in broad terms where other development should go in the rest of the district.

The preferred options consultation on the core strategy and Aylesbury allocated sites development plan documents was the second consultation on these documents, and took place in July/August 2007. The purpose of this stage was to identify our preferred policy approach and ask for comments on this.

Published alongside the preferred options document was a sustainability appraisal report which highlights the main impacts of the preferred options, and describes how these can be reduced.

We have now produced reports on the responses to the preferred options consultation. We will take into account all comments made, along with further background work and evidence gathering, in the preparation of the detailed ‘submission’ draft of the core strategy. We are still working on the detailed timetable for the core strategy, but it is likely that the consultation on the submission draft will be in spring/summer 2009.
