Core Strategy publication (June 2009)

On the 8th September 2010 the Council will be considering a recommendation to withdraw the Core Strategy from the examination process (subject to Secretary of State Direction); this report will be available from 26th August 2010. Please see the Core Strategy – Current Position webpage for the latest information.

The proposed submission core strategy was published for comment between Wednesday 10 June and Wednesday 22 July 2009.

What is the Core Strategy?

The core strategy sets out the overall strategy for development in the district, including a spatial vision and objectives. It makes strategic allocations in the district, for major housing growth at Aylesbury and in the north east of the district adjacent to Milton Keynes, as well as key major employment areas. It sets out in broad terms the spatial strategy and apportionment of development for the rest of the district, but does not identify sites for this growth, which will be the subject of another policy document likely to be published in late 2010.

What was the purpose of publication?

The core strategy was published in order for comments to be made before it is submitted for independent examination. Comments will be considered alongside the published core strategy at the examination by an independent planning inspector appointed by the Secretary of State.

What happens next?

Following the period for comment, we are now summarising, analysing and inputting any comments received for the Planning Inspector. We aim to have this complete in September 2009. Once the analysis is complete we will submit the core strategy to the Planning Inspectorate and government. Once we do this, the timings of all following events are under the control of the Planning Inspectorate, however we are working on the following provisional timeframes: Pre hearing meeting – November/ December 2009 and examination - February / March 2010.
