Sustainability Appraisal
As part of the process of developing the Vale of Aylesbury Plan, we must undertake a sustainability appraisal.
We are required to undertake a process of sustainability appraisal (SA) incorporating Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) directive for the Vale of Aylesbury Plan. The SA process is a way of ensuring that all plans and programmes which relate to the development and use of land, are compatible with the aims of sustainable development. The directive also aims to ensure that all plans/policies with land use implications take into consideration environmental issues.
An SA must therefore be carried out to inform the preparation of local development plans (development plan documents) because they are likely to have significant environmental effects. Decision makers should take into account the findings of the SA and any opinions expressed during consultation.
The first stage was a Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report (2011). We have also carried out SA when considering the overall numbers of jobs and homes for the district, the Stage 1 Sustainability Appraisal/SEA of Jobs and Housing Levels and Apportionment Scenarios for homes across the District (published for consultation between 1 December 2011 and 26 January 2012); and when developing the broad strategy for the Vale of Aylesbury Plan, which is presented as an addendum to the Stage 1 document (March 2012). A further SA will be carried out in the summer 2012 to inform preparation of the final Plan.
The addendum can be viewed using the link below.
