Garden waste service

Changes to collection dates at Bank Holidays in May.

Collections will be delayed to the Saturday of the week your bin is normally emptied, so please do not put your garden waste bin till the Saturday of that week.

Normal collection day                      Revised collection date
May Day Monday 6 May                       Saturday 11 May
Bank Holiday Monday 27 May            Saturday 1 June

Please note: If you are in any doubt which week your Garden Waste collection is, it's normally collected on Mondays on a fortnightly basis, in the same week as your waste bin.

You do not need to re-register for the service if you signed up last year.

Sign up to our Garden Waste Collection Service, available at an introductory cost of £36 a year. For this we provide a large brown wheeled bin, which will be emptied once a fortnight on a Monday. The material we collect is composted. The service runs from February to November, with no collections in December and January.

To find out more about how it works, read these frequently asked questions.

What you can put in your garden waste bin

  • Grass and hedge cuttings
  • Garden plants and fallen fruit
  • Leaves
  • Small branches and twigs (up to wrist thickness - about 10cm)
  • Tree and shrub prunings
  • Most weeds, except noxious weeds such as Japanese knotweed, ragwort and giant hogweed.

Alternatively, you can compost at home, or take it to one of the 3 household waste and recycling centres, in Aylesbury, Aston Clinton and Buckingham. Garden waste must not be put in your green waste bin, food waste bin or recycling bin.

If you aren't sure about how much garden waste you might have, you can share a bin and the cost of the service with a neighbour, however the account will be registered to one resident and collected from that address.
