Reduce, reuse and recycle your waste
We are dedicated to promoting waste awareness through the 3 r's, reduce, reuse and recycle. The first step to tackle waste at home, is to look at new ways we can reduce the amount of waste we produce in the first place.
In partnership with Bucks County Council, Chiltern, South Bucks and Wycombe District Councils, we have several initiatives to help you reduce your waste.
Home composting
Home composting is cheap and easy to do. A third of what we bin could be turned into compost. Turning kitchen and garden waste into compost is the only method of recycling you can do completely at home. Most importantly home composting reduces the amount of biodegradable waste being sent to landfill. Biodegradable waste does not rot down in landfill sites properly and produces harmful greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and methane, which is 24 times more powerful than CO2.

Love Food, Hate Waste
Many people do not realise that food waste is a major environmental issue, but it's not just about the environment; wasting food costs the average family £420 a year. Around a third of all the food we buy ends up being thrown in the bin and most of this could have been eaten. The Love Food Hate Waste campaign is the ‘Waste Not Want Not’ of the modern day, providing handy tips, advice and recipes to help everyone waste less food. Real Nappies
Buckinghamshire Real Nappy Initiative has been developed on behalf of all local authorities in Buckinghamshire under the Recycle for Buckinghamshire campaign. Approximately 5,000 babies are born within the county each year, generating approximately 2,621 tonnes of disposable nappy waste per year. The initiative aims to reduce this waste by encouraging real nappy usage, offering a cashback, advice, real nappy libraries and much more. Click here for more details: Real Nappies
Furniture Reuse
Around 10 million items of furniture are thrown away in the UK every year. 3 million of these items could be easily re-used; more could be repaired. Re-using an item of furniture saves the energy associated with manufacturing a new one, which has an enormous and positive impact on reducing CO2 emissions and can help households in need access furniture, white goods and other household items at affordable prices. There are several networks that have been set up to encourage reuse such as the international group freecycle and the furniture reuse network.
