New recycling bin with blue lid for residents in the brown bin areas

New recycling bin with blue lid for residents in the brown bin areas

We provide each household with 2 recycling baskets that are emptied fortnightly and a glass recycling box which is emptied every 4 weeks. If you live in a flat you please see below for information about your recycling collection.

New! Recycling bin

If you live in the brown bin pilot areas of Buckingham and Winslow you will be issued with a new recycling bin,  This is the first stage of changes to your refuse and recycling collections that will be brought in across the Vale in summer 2012. Currently only residents in the brown bin areas are being provided with the recycling bins.

The same materials that you currently recycle, newspapers, magazines, any other paper, steel and aluminium cans, plastic bottles and trays) can all be mixed in the bin together, and you can now recycle cardboard, foil and cartons used for food and drinks (e.g. TetraPaks) in this bin as well.  For more details please see the leaflet below.

For residents on blacks sacks or for those with particualr storage issues or needs, you will be supplied with clear sacks for recycling instead of the recycling bin. Please use the clear sacks in exactly the same way as the recycling bin. Do not place recycling out in the baskets and only use the clear sacks provided.

Recycling baskets

One recycling basket is for paper and the other is for mixed cans and plastics. We will collect as much paper, plastics and cans recycling as you put out, but please don't mix paper with other recycled materials in the same basket.

We recommend that you wash and squash all your plastic packaging before placing it in your basket. If you are finding that 2 baskets is not enough to store your recycling in, you can order an extra set of up to 3 baskets/boxes. The baskets and boxes are free,  Click here to order online.  Or you can write to: AVDC, New Century House, Pembroke Road, HP20 1DG with details of your address and what baskets/boxes you need.

Please note glass will only be collected from the box provided by AVDC and for safety reasons our crews will only remove level loads. We are happy to collect excess plastic, cans and paper. However please use a suitable container to store them in. The container should be no larger than the black basket provided by AVDC and we ask you to avoid using black sacks, carrier bags or cardboard boxes as these can cause health and safety problems for our crews and we cannot recycle these materials along with your plastic, cans or paper.

Flats recycling collection

We have recently introduced a communal recycling service for residents that live in blocks of flats. If your flats has space in the bin cupboard or other communal area you will be provided with bins for the collection of paper, plastics and cans. Please see downloads link below for a full list of materials you can recycle in your green and blue recycling bins. At this time we are unable to collect glass from flats.

If your flats block doesn't currently have recycling facilities in place, but you have identified an area where bins could be placed, please contact us on the number below.
