On street parking

Parking on the street in towns and villages within Aylesbury Vale is allowed subject to general traffic regulations and the special restrictions applicable in controlled parking zones.

Remember that you will be liable to a fine (a Penalty Charge Notice) if you fail to honour the traffic regulations and/or the special restrictions.

Special enforcement areas

Councils can apply to the Secretary of State for authority to enforce parking offences within an area. These areas are called special enforcement areas.

Enforcement of parking restrictions within a special enforcements area is our responsibility rather than the police.

Within a special enforcement area it is the responsibility of a Civil Enforcement Officer to identify that a contravention has taken place and to issue a Penalty Charge Notice.

A special enforcement area may have a number of controlled parking zones within its boundaries.

Controlled parking zones

A controlled parking zone is an area where parking is regulated by the use of waiting restrictions indicated by a yellow line and parking bays painted on the road.

Parking in the bays may be free of charge or paid for by the use of:

  • Permits
  • Pay and display machines
  • Meters
  • Vouchers

The restricted hours for parking on the yellow lines and the operational times of the bays are generally the same. The times will be displayed on zone entry signs at the beginning of the controlled parking zone.

Restricted parking times will not necessarily be displayed alongside yellow lines within a controlled parking zone unless the hours of restriction differ from those displayed on the zone entry signs.

There may be a number of controlled parking zones within a special enforcemen area.

The role of the police

Within a special parking area, the police retain responsibility for:

  • Enforcing other, mainly endurable, parking offences such as:
    - Dangerous parking
    - Obstruction
    - Stretches of road indicated by police ‘no parking’ signs
    - Parking offences at pedestrian crossings
  • Enforcing the full range of moving traffic offences.
  • Taking action against any vehicle where security or other traffic policing issues are involved, including the need to close roads and set up diversions.
