Street care and cleaning

Our countryside, rural villages and bustling towns are places of pleasure for a great many people. Keeping the district clean and tidy is a major task for our street cleaning team.

We are responsible for:

  • cleaning our own land, such as parks and car parks
  • cleaning roads, roundabouts, cycle tracks, underpasses, verges and lay-bys
  • specialised cleaning, such as removal of graffiti and fly-posting, on council property.

Cleaning up after people costs council tax payers a lot of money that could be better used elsewhere. For instance, in one year, we spent almost £11,000 removing chewing gum from Aylesbury town centre.

All streets are swept regularly. If you notice a particular problem between regular cleans, you can report it to us by calling 01296 585235.

Although we can only remove graffiti from our own walls and buildings, we can offer removal advice to householders and businesses; phone 01296 585235 during office hours.

We empty litter bins across the district as part of our street cleaning programme. However, most bins are owned by parish and town councils. Litter bins in shopping centres and on private property are the responsibility of the property owner.

Spilt objects or dead animals on roads

If you notice any spilt objects on the road, or dead animals, you can report it by calling 01296 585235. We will remove it as quickly as we can.
