Rail card scheme

Aylesbury Vale District Council continues to offer rail cards as an alternative to a bus pass.

You can have a rail card and taxi tokens as an alternative to a bus pass. At a cost of £2 the rail card allows you to a third off any rail travel within a 20 mile radius of Aylesbury, including:

  • Bicester 
  • Haddenham 
  • Princes Risborough
  • High Wycombe
  • Beaconsfield
  • Seers Green
  • Gerrards Cross
  • Stoke Mandeville
  • Wendover
  • Great Missenden
  • Amersham

You are eligible for a rail card if you are in receipt of a state pension or refer to the  downloadable eligibility chart,  or if you are a disabled person, and live in the Aylesbury Vale District Council area. The rail card is valid for one year from the date of issue. Only the person named on the rail card may use it. This is a partnership scheme with Chiltern Railways

Your rail card is valid for one year from the date of issue. The rail card is for your sole use only.

You can apply for a Rail card by filling in the downloadable form below. You must apply in person and take the application form, proof of eligibility, residency and a recent passport-style photo to our council offices in Aylesbury.

Eligibility

You are eligible for rail card 

  • If you are in receipt of a state pension or refer to the downloadable eligibility chart below, and you live in a parish with a restricted bus service (see downloadable information sheet for details below)
  • If you cannot use buses because of disability or frailty - either because you are unable to board a bus or because you are unable to walk to or from the bus stop at either end of the journey.

Only certain groups of people are eligible for travel concession for which a medical certificate or registration document will be required, and these are listed below:

  • Blind or partially sighted 
  • Profoundly or severely deaf 
  • Without speech 
  • Has a disability or has suffered an injury which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on his/her ability to walk 
  • Does not have arms or has long-term loss of the use of both arms 
  • Has a learning disability, that is, a state of arrested or incomplete development of mind & which includes significant impairment of intelligence and social functioning 
  • Has been refused a driving licence because of physical incapacity (does not include refusal on grounds of drug or alcohol misuse) 
  • In receipt of the higher rate  DLA
  • In receipt of a blue badge
