Check who’s taking away your waste

Clearing up fly-tipped rubbish in England and Wales costs over £100m a year.

A lot of this rubbish is dumped by contractors, such as builders, electricians, house clearers and gardeners.

By law, householders must check that anyone removing waste from their property is authorised to do so. If you fail to do so, you could be fined up to £5,000.

You can check whether a person or company is registered to carry waste on the Environment Agency’s website.
