Dog breeding licences

You will need a licence if you breed dogs for commercial purposes.

The licence is valid for a maximum 12 of months.

Is there an appeal process?

Contact AVDC in the first instance.

If your application is refused, or if you do not agree with a condition attached to your licence, you may appeal to your local magistrates’ court.

What if I don’t comply?

An unlicensed breeder can be imprisoned for up to 3 months, fined up to £500 and banned from breeding for a specific period.
