Aylesbury Vale District Council (AVDC) is calling all local schools, nurseries, PTAs and play groups to boost their fundraising by signing up to Vale Lottery.
Vale Lottery is the UK’s first council-run online lottery and has raised more than £70,000 for local groups in its first year. 136 good causes are already signed up to the scheme and the council wants to highlight that school groups are also very welcome. There are already some on board who are feeling the benefits of extra funds.
Sandy Snelling from Friends of the Grange School PTA, one of Aylesbury’s largest secondary schools, said: “Through signing up to Vale Lottery, we’ve been able to buy new, robust outdoor cafeteria seating as well as new Science and Geography equipment for the students. As a small PTA, it’s been a great way to fundraise with minimal effort and the outcome has been fantastic!”
Groups who sign up get their own webpage at valelottery.co.uk which they then shout about to their supporters, with the help of free marketing materials provided under the scheme. Tickets are just £1 each and 50p in every pound goes directly to the good causes, with a further 10p going to AVDC’s Community Fund and the remaining amount to running costs and the prize fund - AVDC does not take a penny. Supporters get the chance to win a £25,000 jackpot, as well as a number of other smaller prizes.
Cllr. Janet Blake, Cabinet Member for Business Transformation, said: “We know how hard schools work to fundraise for essentials and we want to ensure that they’re aware of this brilliant opportunity. It’s quick and easy for them to become part of Vale Lottery and best of all it’s free! It’s then about getting parents to support which, unlike most fundraising, doesn’t require a big time commitment - get just 40 parents on board and that’s around £1000 extra for a year for your school! ”
AVDC will be holding an open meeting for school and PTA members in April, so they can learn more about Vale Lottery. This will take place at the Gateway, in Aylesbury. Those interested in attending on behalf of a school, nursery or playgroup, can register an interest by emailing email@example.com
