Aylesbury Vale District Council (AVDC) has been recognised for its innovative approach at the national Public Sector Transformation Awards 2019.
AVDC received the Gold Award for ‘Digital Transformation’ at the awards ceremony which took place on Wednesday 6 March.
AVDC’s submission detailed the council’s innovative use of technology, including the adoption of artificial intelligence, to better serve customer queries. By putting the needs of the customer first and embracing new technologies, AVDC's approach is empowering local residents and businesses, while enabling the council to effectively allocate resources and provide a modern, high-quality service.
Examples of AVDC’s use of technology includes it becoming the world’s first council to have an approved Amazon Alexa Skill, and a webchat service that allows customer queries to be dealt with at just 10% of the cost of handling queries by phone. In addition, by moving its entire IT to the Cloud, AVDC has saved over £6 million.
Andrew Grant, Chief Executive of AVDC, commented:
“This is a huge accolade for AVDC’s vision and innovation in using digital technology to help our customers, and I’m so proud of all our colleagues involved in making this happen, and for their hard work and for leading the way.
“To be shortlisted for the Digital Transformation award was an achievement in itself, but to win the award is simply fantastic and is testament to the groundbreaking work going on here at AVDC.”
