Aylesbury Vale District Council’s (AVDC) Town Centre Management team were delighted to host a vibrant, colourful and atmospheric Christmas Craft and Gift Market on Sunday 2 December in Aylesbury town centre. Over 80 stalls lined the cobbles of the historic Market Square, selling a range of unusual and well-priced gifts.
Alongside the festive mix of Christmas stalls, visitors were also entertained by a wide range of music including a beautiful vintage barrel organ and excellent performances from Theatre Train, Bucks Music and Syncopated Jazz. Whilst the adults browsed a variety of goods, children took advantage of the vintage fair rides and glitter face painting on offer and the beautiful pine Christmas trees and wreathes proved to be a big hit for everyone!
The aroma of fresh cooking added to the atmosphere with a delicious array of street food on offer from over ten food traders. In the food court, visitors could choose from German sausages, Caribbean cuisine, burritos, locally made cheeses and relishes, Greek barbeque, Indian skewers, locally made craft beer, gin, freshly made coffee & crepes and of course the popular chip butty - there really was something for everyone to enjoy.
The organisers, AVDC’s Town Centre Management team, were proud to support the Young Enterprise traders. Young Enterprise works in partnership with local schools, businesses and volunteers to inspire and equip thousands of young people each year to learn and succeed through enterprise. They ensure that young people grow up with the life skills, knowledge and confidence they need to succeed in the changing world of work. This market was the first time that these budding entrepreneurs had an opportunity to sell their goods and they all sold out!
One visitor commented, “Super afternoon. Lots of affordable choice. Great festive atmosphere. Lovely young people from local schools selling their wares too. Well done Aylesbury!”
Diana Fawcett, Town Centre and Regeneration Manager said: “It was fantastic to see so many people enjoying themselves and stocking up for Christmas. We are proud that this event has grown each year and is now the biggest free entry gift market in the whole of Buckinghamshire.”
Late night shopping in Aylesbury town centre continues every Thursday until Christmas with free parking available from 3.30pm on those Thursdays in AVDC town centre car parks.
