Aylesbury Market was extremely proud to play host to the first Foodie Friday Live event on 6 October 2017. The weekly foodie market had an additional dimension for that week, and it was an event that was filled with an amazing selection of food traders who showcased themselves and engaged with the public through tasters and interviews about how their products are made.
Aylesbury’s historic Market Square was bought to life with music and stalls adorned with bunting and balloons. DJ Dan Blasé compered the event and interviewed stall holders about their businesses and the most popular products they sold in the market. Live cooking demonstrations took place including fresh Italian tomato sauce from Pepe and sushi demonstrations from the Japanese stall. There were tasters galore for shoppers to sample from a range of traditional sausages to Afro-Caribbean food. Wagamama and the Chiltern Brewery also joined in the fun with a range of beer tasting and enticing nibbles.
The market was very busy and one visitor said: “This is fantastic for Aylesbury Market, it has really brought the market to life making it feel incredibly vibrant.”
Traders were delighted to have the opportunity to showcase themselves, and Giggly Pig (locally produced handmade sausages) said that it was great to be at a market where events were specifically run to promote and showcase the food stalls.
Hale Leys Centre Shopping Manager John Watson visited the market for lunch and said: “The market was full of really inviting aromas, and there was a stimulating atmosphere around all the food stalls.”
The Aylesbury market team plan to repeat the Foodie Friday Live event in December.
