10 May 2018
Aylesbury sees the return of the national Love Your Local Market celebrations, and the markets are joining in with their usual passion and enthusiasm.
Friday 18 May sees the campaign kick off with Foodie Friday Live - with the full programme of events running until Wednesday 30 May.
The Foodie Friday Live event will be hosted by local compère DJ Dan Blaze, who will interview the traders about their product offerings. This will be a great opportunity for traders to talk about their range of products they sell, and for them to offer tasters to members of the public.
There’ll also be appetising street food from around the world such as Caribbean cuisine, Greek barbeque and sushi. These will be complemented by a vast range of fresh produce, including fish from Lowestoft, meats, eggs, chutneys jams, mouth-watering cakes and pastries, Italian delicacies, fresh fruit and vegetables, and vegan food.
Saturday 19 May celebrates the royal wedding of Harry and Megan by entertaining the shoppers between 11am-3pm with performances from The Bluebird Belles with swing dancers accompanying their songs. Visitors are encouraged to join in the spirit of the day - and to put on their dancing shoes!
Tuesday 22 May the Vintage & Craft Bazaar will be offering free valuations of your collectables, valued by the traders within their specialist areas.
Wednesday 23 May sees the return of Jake by popular demand. Jake will entertain people with his traditional one-man band between 11am-3pm.
Saturday 26 May is the annual Peregrine watch event. Once again, the nesting pair will be on view (10am-2pm) for all to see as they prepare to hatch.
Tuesday 29 May will see visitors to the Vintage & Craft Bazaar entertained by Stephanie and her accordion while they meander around the bazaar looking for that unusual collectable piece. Free valuations will also be available on pieces brought to the event. And for the children, donkey rides will take place between 11am-3pm. There will also be an exciting opportunity to meet Mark Elvy - the author of the children’s stories Fluke & Tash. (Fans of Mark’s books can bring along their copies for Mark to sign.)
Aylesbury Town Centre Manager Diana Fawcett said:
“Aylesbury market continues to thrive with four markets a week located in the historic Market Square. The Love Your Local Market event this year showcases all of our markets, and visitors can take the opportunity over this fortnight to enjoy the array of entertainment while also talking to local traders, producers and discovering new delights. You can also shop with confidence, because we’re signed up to the national Real Deal scheme with Trading Standards. So, come along and rediscover Aylesbury markets this May!”
This year, Aylesbury markets will be supporting Dementia Awareness Week, by making the markets a dementia-friendly environment. Aylesbury markets are also a supporter of ‘Fur Free Markets’.
