At the end of last year, we celebrated the second anniversary of MyAccount, Aylesbury Vale District Council’s online customer account. We offered all residents and businesses registered and signed up to online services by 31 December a chance to win an Amazon Echo.
We asked ‘Alexa’, the AI (artificial intelligence) voice of the Amazon Echo to select our winner – local resident, Catherine Mandungu. On Wednesday, the Chairman of AVDC, Councillor Sue Renshell welcomed Catherine to The Gateway to receive her prize.
Catherine signed up to MyAccount when she moved to Aylesbury Vale almost two years ago. She commented: “I signed up to MyAccount and it has proved a simple and easy way to pay and view my council tax. I’m really grateful to have received an Amazon Echo, especially after hearing great things from my sister about them, and can’t wait to link it up with my MyAccount and explore the other many benefits it can provide.”
Since its launch in Autumn 2015, half of all households in Aylesbury Vale have signed up to MyAccount. Many residents have benefited from being able to access council services all day and every day. Already, thirty four percent of MyAccount users have linked their account to their Council Tax and this has saved £10,000 of public money in postage costs alone.
The Chairman of AVDC commented: “Congratulations to Catherine for being our prize draw winner. I sincerely hope you enjoy your new Amazon Echo and that you’re able to put it to good use.”
AVDC continues to embrace developing technology through its Connected Knowledge programme - to better serve the needs of Aylesbury Vale residents. Those who have not yet signed up to MyAccount are encouraged to do so. It’s a win, win and helps to save public money which can instead be invested in improving other services and limiting fee rises.
