Only one month to go until this year’s WhizzFizzFest!

22 May 2019

The countdown is officially on for this year’s WhizzFizzFest, Aylesbury’s fantastic family-friendly literary and arts festival taking place in Aylesbury town centre on Saturday 22 June, 10.30am - 5.30pm! With just one month to go until the big day, everyone’s invited to take a look at the incredible selection of activities, events and entertainment for all festival-goers to enjoy.

Aylesbury Vale District Council (AVDC), and WhizzFizzFest’s gold sponsors Hale Leys Shopping Centre and Aylesbury Garden Town, are delighted to be welcoming three incredible family-favourite authors to WhizzFizzFest 2019, as well as the return of festival friend, Dame Darcey Bussell, and a whole host of amazing free activities throughout the day.

This year’s exciting literary line up includes Cressida Cowell, author of the incredible How to Train Your Dragon series, Judith Kerr, whose The Tiger Who Came to Tea and Mog series are amongst the country’s best loved children’s titles, and Nick Butterworth, award-winning author and illustrator of the adored Percy the Park Keeper series. WhizzFizzFest is also delighted to welcome back ballerina extraordinaire Dame Darcey Bussell, who will be returning with her DDMix Dance Fitness schools’ dance competition at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre, supported by Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist, Maddox and The Aylesbury Rock Choir. Tickets for these headlining events are available from www.whizzfizzfest.org.uk/tickets

The beautiful gardens of Bucks County Museum, in the heart of Aylesbury’s historic old town, will host a heart-warming, taste-bud-tickling Teddy Bear’s Picnic. A range of flavoursome wraps and a delicious selection of homemade treats make up the street-food inspired adult menu, whilst for younger whizzfizzers, there’s a scrumptious traditional picnic offering finger sandwiches and both a healthy and sweet treat. With three different sittings available (12.30pm, 2pm and 3.30pm) and some excellent entertainment to enjoy, the Teddy Bear’s Picnic is the perfect opportunity to sit back, relax and refresh before heading back out to explore all that WhizzFizzFest has to offer!

Tickets are also available for entry into WhizzFizzFest’s fantastic fancy dress competition, taking place on the Runway Stage at 12.30pm as well as for the 500 Words Challenge – The Final Chapter, an exciting event celebrating Aylesbury Vale’s young aspiring authors as the winner of Queens Park Arts Centre’s 500 Words Challenge is revealed, supported by musical and dance performances by Adele Peters Performing Arts School.

Alongside our amazing headlining and ticketed events, WhizzFizzFest is also excited to offer a fun fair at Kingsbury and an inclusive mix of fantastical FREE entertainment. In grand tradition, the magnificent cobbled streets of Market Square will host over 1,000 school children from across Aylesbury Vale in the spectacular children’s literary parade. Featuring costumes, puppets and WhizzFizzFest’s unmissable five-metre-tall Giant (Whizzton Fizzley), the parade, which starts at 10.30am, will unquestionably bring the town centre to life with colour, music and creativity!

Situated at the top of Market Square, the Runway Stage has an amazing and diverse schedule of entertainment for all to enjoy. Festival goers can expect the return of all of WhizzFizzFest’s favourites including, the fantastic fancy dress competition, Young Artist’s Showcase, sensational performances by theatre group, Vivo D’Arte and Holy Cow’s fashion show and Bhangra dancers. Plus there’ll be special performances by Unbound Theatre at The King’s Head.

WhizzFizzFest is also delighted to welcome some new (and familiar!) faces to the festival. Joining the celebration is a fantastic selection of local authors including, Darren St Mart, Jill Stanton-Huxton, Mark Elvy, Christine Tennent and Aaliyah Neil, all playing their part to help inspire the imaginations and creativity of local children.

And the selection of free activities and entertainment doesn’t stop there… There’s bubbleologists, balloonists, story tellers, live music, dancers, street performers, Calibre Audio Library drop-in recording sessions, Festive Road creative workshops and the debut of the WhizzFizzQuest for festival-goers to enjoy throughout the day!
