On Saturday 1 July Aylesbury town centre hosts the new incarnation of the Roald Dahl Festival, the Whizzfizzing Festival, and tickets are going fast! The new-look event will be bigger and better than ever with a range of fun activities planned to keep all the family entertained from 11am to 5.30pm. The festival is free to attend but some of the activities do have a cost and need booking in advance.
There are 15 local schools taking part in the Fantastical Beasts themed parade and they're currently busy preparing their costumes and puppets, with some talented young performers putting the finishing touches to their part in the Young Talent Showcase.
Authors and local celebrities are getting ready to be part of Dahl in a Day, where they'll be reading all of George's Marvellous Medicine to festival goers. More big-name guests will be adding to the festivities including CBeebies' presenter Katy Ashworth, who'll be taking to her Concoction Kitchen which proved such a hit last year. Katy told us she's "very much looking forward to having a giggle!"
Fans of Julian Clary's incredibly popular series, The Bolds, are in luck as the author himself will be attending, accompanied by the hugely talented illustrator David Roberts. There are yet more fantastic authors who will be enthralling visitors with their story telling and offering book signings as the perfect memento of the day. These sessions are interactive and great fun, letting the audience take part and really get to know the authors. Plus you can book tea and cake with the Tiger Who Came to Tea.
Cllr Angela Macpherson, AVDC Cabinet Member for Communities said: "This year's event, revamped as the Whizzfizzing Festival, is shaping up to be our biggest and most action-packed festival to date. With so many fantastic authors attending and activities on offer be sure to pre book your tickets to make the most of the festivities. It's a day not to be missed!"
