The User Experience UK Awards 2015

AVDC has been shortlisted for the UXUK public sector award for its new website. The User Experience UK Awards recognise excellence in user-focused digital or service design. Our entry, submitted by web development partner Orange Bus, has been shortlisted alongside some strong competition including EasyJet, HSBC, NatWest, BBC, BT Sport & Royal Mail.

The specific marking criteria by which AVDC’s website has been shortlisted focuses on engagement with the public, service to the public and value to the public. Customer insight has been a key focus of the website redevelopment enabling the new site to meet this criteria. AVDC and Orange Bus have worked extensively with residents to find out what they want, and their input has been integral to the new design.

In the month following the website’s launch there was a 33% decrease in telephone calls to the Recycling and Waste team with the website now providing an easy alternative for finding information. As the website is also device responsive there has been a 7% rise in mobile/tablet usage, as it’s quicker and easier to find information on-the-go, saving residents time. Furthermore, there has been a 5% rise in new users, proof that the website is reaching new demographics and enabling people to access key information when and where they want.

Councillor Janet Blake, Cabinet Member for Business Transformation, comments: “The driving force behind the new website was to make it as easy as possible for residents and businesses to find  information, apply or pay for services and to report issues. With this in mind it was vital Aylesbury Vale residents were consulted as much as possible during the website’s creation.

The finished design and navigation represents the findings from our customer workshops and public surveys, demonstrating that we created a site that residents desired. To have our effort recognised by the UXUK Awards is, in itself, a great honour, but to be shortlisted alongside such large commercial companies is a fantastic achievement of which I and all the AVDC and Orange Bus team are extremely proud.”

The winner will be announced on Thursday 12 November.
