It is accepted that undertaking construction work can create noise.
The noise can not be avoided, but the Council can in certain circumstances put restrictions in place to control the noise or restrict the hours work can take place. In some cases the building company will contact the Council in advance and fill in a form for prior consent. The Council has 28 days to consider a prior consent application.
The times which we usually allow for noisy work to be undertaken are:
- Monday to Friday: 7.30am to 18.00pm
- Saturday: 8.00am to 13.00pm
- Sunday/Bank Holidays: No noisy work
Outside of these hours the company are allowed to be on site, but the noisiest work can not be carried out. There are also occasions when we permit work outside of these times. There may also be times where noisy works are required in an emergency situation.
If you are a resident who is affected by noise, it is suggested that you speak to the company directly. There is a template letter which you may prefer to send if you do not feel you can approach the company.
If you are still affected there are more details on how to report an issue on our nuisance page.
