Houses in multiple occupation (HMO)

An HMO is a property that is let to 3 or more people forming 2 or more households. It includes bedsits, shared houses, hostels and some buildings that have been converted into self contained flats which don’t meet Building Regulation standards.

Buckinghamshire Council operates a Mandatory licensing scheme and you should check whether your property requires a licence. Please note that failure to licence a licensable HMO is a criminal offence.
