In line with the national timetable, the Council has made available its draft statement of  accounts for 2018/19. Whilst these have been published, the final audited accounts will not be available until the end of November 2019. The reason for the delay is because our external auditor, EY LLP, is not able to provide the necessary staff to undertake the audit work to the expected timetable. This is a regrettable situation, and we have expressed our concerns to the body responsible for appointing and monitoring external auditors, Public Sector Audit Appointments, that a global firm of the scale of EY LLP has not been able to meet its obligations in respect of our audit.

AVDC is one of several local authorities impacted by these issues. The circumstances of the audit are beyond the control of AVDC.

However, this situation is allowed for by Regulation 10, paragraph (2a) of the Accounts and Audit Regulations 2015. As per paragraph (2a), we are not yet able to publish our audited 2018/19 final statement of accounts in line with the deadline of 31 July 2019, as per paragraph (1). The audit committee will consider the results of the 2018/19 audit at its meeting on 25 November 2019, after which we will publish the final audited accounts.
